We would like to thank Steve Turso, owner of Fast Track Logistics, and the staff of Fast Track Logistics for allowing us to meet with them and allowing us to ask questions, not only to satisfy the needs of this report, but to also gain a better understanding of the application of Operations Management and general business concepts to an actual company.

  Company Manager
Steve Turso is the owner of Fast Track Logistics, which he started in 2003. Having worked for numerous other shipping companies after college, while learning the ins and outs of the industry, he also learned what not to do in running a business.  His strategy is to constantly find ways to make his business run smoother. The motto “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” does not sit well in his mind, and instead he believes it should “be fixed until it’s broke”. When the company first opened, FTL would operate using paper, and phone calls, but Steve later transitioned to using strictly technology. He believes that since technology plays a huge part in our society today, he should take advantage of the benefits, such as automated confirmation/thank you emails, and having 80% of his business done online. For the duration of our 2 hour interview the phone only rang twice, which Steve takes much pride in. The reason for this is due to the fact that FTL sends out confirmation/thank you emails which cuts down on the amount of unnecessary phone calls by notifying the customers that their orders have been received.. According to Steve, “automated emails save employees roughly 25% of their time by reducing the amount of phone calls”.
Steve believes that the best way to have a successful company starts with the employees. If the employees are happy, they will do their absolute best to make sure the company strives. His acronym “kismif” (keep it simple, make it fun) shows that he holds his employees in the highest regard. He wants his employees to enjoy working there to reduce the turnover rate, and to motivate them to work harder.
